Do you ever watch the Saturday morning “ Home Fix-it” television shows? My wife is addicted to them, to such an extent, she tapes them to view all week long. Like any good husband, I want to have a happy wife, so I watch these show too. All though I do real life construction, I watch them just in case I see something that I can apply to our business.
That’s not the case. I see projects which ignor the Uniform Building Codes requirements, application of the wrong materials, severe safety issues, poor workmanship, and a low value return for the money spent. Everyone whats to get the most for for their investment; enjoy it while you own it and when your ready to sell, you would like to receive the the highest dollar value possible. If your thinking about remodeling do not let these TVshows influence your decision. Talk to a professional remodeler, they can give you a good idea of the the cost range with a simple visit to your home. If its close to your budget then he or she can prepare a formal quotation. It’s that simple.
Here’s money saving tip: the more decisions you make up front ( cabinets, sink counter, lighting, appliances & etc.) the less expense it will be in the long run. If one of the tradesman can do all his work in one trip it will be a lot less expense than bring him back later. The second trip is expensive and the third trip is a killer.
Now – On to the fun stuff
The best part of remodeling is creating the “WOW” factor, sure you can spent a fortune on a kitchen but you can have a Drop Dead Gorgeous kitchen for about $25,000 include upgrade cabinets and granite counter-tops.

- Sun light makes the room come alive.
- Satellite Kitchens are great for entertaining.
- Nothing beats a family friendly kitchen.
Make good use of the room with chairs and stools, they’re great design tools.
